About us:

Who we are:

Amber is a company who specialises in providing support and assistance for you and we work to maintain/improve independence in your own home. We are able to offer advice on all matters, concerning your property including the following:

  1. Adaptation to property - more on adaptions
  2. Maintenance issues - more on maintenance
  3. Improving thermal efficiency - more on efficiency
  4. Repairs/replacement heating systems - more on repairs
  5. Electrical faults/re-wire - more on electrical faults
  6. Investigating building defects (such as dampness,
    cracking etc) - more on building defects
  7. Extensions and house refurbishments - more on extensions

Our Commitment:

We are committed to provide an effective and efficient service, which will lead to improving the comfort and independence of living in your own home.  We always ensure that someone will answer the phone (within working hours 9.00am – 5.30pm) and will visit within one week.  If it is an emergency, we will ensure that we get someone to visit the following day at the earliest.

Customer Consultation:

We understand how important it is to keep you informed of your options and how works are proceeding.  From the moment we are contacted, we will discuss the options/issues thoroughly and will write to you detailing what is agreed. 

Company development:

We are always looking at ways to develop our own skills, in order to improve the service we provide our client.  As members of the RICS we are required to carry out Continued Professional Development on a regular basis.  This provides us with a constant, up-to-date knowledge of regulations and products, which can be used in the home.

At the end of the project, we ask our clients to complete a feedback questionnaire on the service we have provided.  Once a month we review the feedback and implement systems to correct any issues.

Mark Mason

Mark Mason, BSc Hons is a Qualified Surveyor. He started working in 1999 as a Building Surveyor for a private Building Surveying firm. During this, he has had a variety contracts, covering property maintenance, refurbishment and new build.

He has worked for residential, community based and commercial clients as well as regular contracts for local councils.

Since qualifying as a Building Surveyor, he has taken particular interest in building design, which has been aided by working closely with an Architect. Various projects have been carried out for residential, commercial and public buildings.

Experience covers a wide range of building surveying work, including Refurbishment, Renovation, Extensions, New Build, Disabled Access Audits, Surveys, Feasibility Studies, Schedules of Condition, Schedules of Dilapidation and Defects Reports.

In his spare time, Mark enjoys playing the guitar, going to the gym, playing squash and badminton. For several years, he has belonged to a radio controlled flying club where he is accredited to give training to newcomers of the hobby.

Jeremy Jarvis

Jeremy is a qualified surveyor. He started working as a building surveyor in 2006. During this time, he has worked on various contracts including building pathology, bathroom adaptations, designing extensions, organising maintenance works and internal refurbishment.

Since working as a surveyor, he has taken a particular keen interest in designing adaptations for the private home. This includes all manner of alterations from external access, through to providing ground floor bedroom accommodation.

Before working a surveyor, he has 10 years experience working on site for a contractors and developers, which has provided him with hands-on experience of building projects. This has helped to provided him with an in depth understanding of how a building is constructed.

In his spare time, he likes to play the guitar, do DIY, mountain biking and cooking. For the past few years, he has been a member of the local kitesurfing community where he has helped maintain the safety of the general public and helps teach newcomers to the sport.

Sid Gregory

Sid has many years experience as a local authority grants officer handling Disabled Facilities Grants including the design of adaptations. He therefore has great experience in working with grants officers, occupational therapists, surveyors, contractors and local authority administrators.

Sid has a background in the construction industry in inspecting building work to check on quality and standards. He has spent the last 40 years in the construction industry as a qualified electrician, clerk of the works, quantity surveyor and surveyor. As a surveyor, he has produced defects reports, designed disabled adaptations and maintenance.

In his spare time, he plays golf, reads, gardens and does woodwork. He is also a qualified Aromatherapist and Masseur.

William Grumitt

William Grumitt, BA BSc MRICS is a Chartered Surveyor. He started working in 1983 as a Building Surveyor for The Greater London Council. During this, and subsequent employment at The London Borough of Southwark and Hyde Housing Association, he acted in a variety of roles covering the maintenance and property management of the housing stock.

He has worked for both local authority and private practice including working for Elliot, Son and Boyton in London’s West End.

Since moving down to the South Coast in 1990 he has been a teacher and worked for Lambor Associates and Allied Surveyors.

Experience covers a wide range of building surveying work, including Refurbishment, Surveys, Feasibility Studies, Schedules of Condition, Schedules of Dilapidation, Defects Reports and valuations, both residential and commercial.

In his spare time, William is involved with his wife and five children. He is a qualified yoga teacher and avid reader.

John Wade

John Wade is a chartered building surveyor having membership of the Building Surveying, Construction, Residential Property, Valuation and Dispute Resolution Faculties of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS). He has over twenty years experience as a surveyor and has built up an extensive range of professional expertise.

John has designed and managed building and construction contracts in both the private and public sector. He has an architectural background of designing schemes of repair and refurbishment having trained in multidisciplinary offices with an architectural focus. He has overseen the refurbishing and renovating of period properties and Listed Buildings. Clients have included the NHS and Local Authority Departments and Local Education Authorities.

Since moving to Brighton in 1996 he has concentrated more on residential surveys and valuations and general professional practice work. John regularly advises clients on the condition and value of properties prior to acquisition. He is accredited as member of SAVA (Surveyors And Valuers Accreditation) an organisation at the forefront of setting benchmark standards for residential surveys and pioneering the introduction of the Sellers Pack.
He is registered as an expert witness by the Law Society and he is a member of the RICS Dispute Resolution Faculty. He is often called upon to assist in resolving construction and neighbour disputes. John is also a member of the Pyramus and Thisbee Club as a Party Wall Surveyor experienced in the Party Wall etc. Act 1996.

During his time off John enjoys active pursuits such as circuit training, keeping fit and dingy sailing. He is also interested in personal development and human relations. John has cultivated an expertise in Dispute Resolution and has trained in dispute resolution and counselling skills. He is accredited as a voluntary mediator by Adur Independent Mediation Services (AIMS). He has also trained in stress management relaxation and hypnosis and helped many people manage stress levels and even make life-improving changes
such as stopping smoking.
